20 years of Astros baseball

When I think of the Astros, I think of only a few from my time:

Nolan Ryan
Mike Scott
Ken Caminiti
Billy Wagner
Shane Reynolds
Mike Hampton
Daryl Kyle
Lance Berkman
Jeff Bagwell
and Craig Biggio

Biggio is one of the best players to ever wear a baseball uniform and the best Astros player in its history. He’s a legend and an guaranteed inductee into the Hall of Fame. I’m glad I was able to see him in action.

Thanks for all the game winning home runs.
Thanks for being a huge part of the Killer Bs.
Thanks for your consistency and hard work.
Thanks for stepping up to the plate, even though so many of them were hits by pitches.
Thanks for being a life long Astro.
Good luck to you.

Go Astros!!

It’s about time for those Astros to finally make it past the first round of the playoffs!! One step closer to an Astros-Red Sox world series!

I remember going to see the Astros play the Braves almost exactly five years ago in the Astrodome’s last game. The Astros were down 2-1 and the Braves were a much better team. I remember hating Brian Jordan for making so many plays in that series, and to top it off that jerk John freakin’ Rocker runs out the mound, all huffy and big headed, and completely wipes the Astros away for the rest of the game. The Astros scored at least a point or two late in the game but it wasn’t enough to win the game. Thus, we decided to take off from that game early.

Now, if only I could score tickets to the playoffs and fly back to Houston for it. Anyone?

houston sports changes

This has been a huge year for Houston sports, in fact all sports in general. In case anyone does or doesn’t keep up with it, I’ll restate what has happened in the last 365+ days for Houston sports.

Houston has
-signed Jeff Van Gundy as Rockets coach
-Texans become the first NFL expansion team to win two consecutive regular season openers (2003)
-traded Billy Wagner away from Astros
-signed Andy Pettite formerly of the NY Yankees
-RB Domanick Davis (Texans) is named NFL Rookie of the Year
-hosted the Superbowl
-signed Roger Clemens to the Astros team
-traded for Carlos Beltran to the Astros team
-traded away Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley from Rockets for Tracy McGrady and Juwan Howard
-hosted the baseball all-star game
-fired Jimy Williams and hired Phil Garner as Astros coach

Who would have thought half of this would occur if you were asked about it a year ago?!!
