lucky SOB

I thought I was gonna be screwed for the next week without a computer. I assumed everything died and I was gonna be dealing with this for the next few weeks . . . I was LUCKY.

After resetting the bios and clearing the CMOS (by taking out the battery for a few minutes), my computer started back up. That’s right, after a huge shock to the computer, a melted power cable pin on my hard drive, and a few hours of messing with everything, it turns out that everything is okay. I will have to figure out how to get a new hard drive to replace the one I messed up but that’s just a matter of time and I can wait.

So I’m much happier. However, I am feeling like crap!! I have been blowing my nose for the past two days and I’m ready to sleep the week away. And I’m sure I’ll be at work this weekend at the church. Blah.

Hopefully I’ll know more soon about where I’m going to end up. I need to find some kind of news out soon because I’m sick of not knowing.

new PCs to change!!

Not only can I not afford to be purchasing a new computer, I think it’s a wonderful idea for me to spend virtually nothing on a new PC this year for many reasons. The Inquirer, a website devoted to news and coverage of the Information Technology world, has printed this article about new technologies coming to PCs near you. Supposedly, this year is going to bring about the most changes to the modern PC than in the last few years.

If you must buy a new PC, I’d recommend you buy extremely cheap right now and wait for these new features to become standards on PCs before upgrading. It might be a couple of years before many of the new features are a nice consumer price but I think for many of you it would be worth the wait.

long hours, no sleep

Monday. Who wants to go to work right after a nice, relaxing weekend? Well, I should have known better. Monday afternoon, after a relatively uneventful Monday, the network at the clinic decided to take a nose dive. Such a nosedive required hours of trial and error to get the network back up and running. To be precise, about 16 hours on Monday and 6 hours on Tuesday. Yup, I went to bed at 2:30am and woke up at 6:15am. Back to work at 7:00am bright and early. All because the network wasn’t working correctly.

So, come Tuesday afternoon when things relatively calmed down, I took a nice 5 hours nap. All in all, those many hours sucked. Now it’s a matter of putting in many more hours over the next 7 days to recover and get things back to the way they were. As well, trying to catch up and figure everything out so that there isn’t a whole lot of work to miss over Christmas.

And all of this is just my part time job! I can’t imagine having a full time job and having another network crash. I hope I get lucky with work!!
