hollywood and highlands

I finally drove to Hollywood today. After being here 10 days and not doing all that much, I met up with a friend down in Hollywood at the California Pizza Kitchen. Good pizza but a tad expensive. However, they have this lemonade with a nice strawberry mix and it was wonderful!

If you have never been to Hollywood, there is plenty to see for the first time and lots to take pictures of. I didn’t take my camera out with me this time because we just walked around and ate most of the time. Except when we were in the bowling alley.

Lucky Strike Lanes is tucked away under the Hollywood and Highlands center on the lower east side facing Highlands. It’s a trendy, contemporary restaurant/bar/bowling alley and during the day, prices are half reasonable. If you go on the weekends, expect to pay a lot of money!! It was very much like stepping into a classy bar which happened to provide 12 lanes of bowling. They had black lights, wide screen TVs with animated video and a subdued atmosphere including some very comfortable couches to sit on while you wait your turn! It was strange to think that it was a bowling alley but very nice.

Hmm… That last paragraph almost sounds like an advertisement.

Well, I’ll probably go out this weekend sometime to get some photos but I really hope that the smog will clear up. When I was driving on the (Interstate) 5 into town I noticed something really strange. The closer I got to the actual city limits, the smoggier it was. I literally could see the end of a beautiful, clean day and the beginning of a bubble of smog. It seriously looked like I was driving into a bubble but it was a huge cloud of smog. After you drive into it, everything becomes a little more clear but when looking up in from a distance, you’d think there’s a lot of dirt particles flying around in the air. Sorta like what a dust storm looks like from a distance on a nice day up in the panhandle of west Texas.

I might appear on the Jimmy Kimmel Show tonight in one of their segments and if so, I’ll see if I can post a screen capture! They were, however, interviewing a lot of people. EDIT: 1:30am Hey, I actually made the cut! They showed me saying, “I’ve never even seen that show before”. Eh, what a goofball I look like…

Welcome to the new Asuh.com

I’ve been doing absolutely nothing else for the past few days, since about Friday, except for coding and getting this new site ready for the big switch over. And it’s finally here!!

There are many changes from my end but not too many visible changes on your end. It should look relatively the same, but hopefully a LOT more clean. I have added a few things and will continue to add a lot more stuff in the future. The photo gallery is down for now until I can figure out a way to get a new one up.

It’s been a lot of fun and there’s so much more to come! I hope to have many more new photos, entries, side comments, etc. etc. as I continue to *blog*. If you see something one day and it looks different the next, it’s because I’m changing so that it looks better. Hope this is to your liking!

Just a few comments about everything.. My comment system is down with this new look, meaning you can’t directly access it like you have been able to before. You’ll have to go to the community forum and leave comments in the new “blog comments” section until I can once again hook them back up to the comments page. Please be sure to register because it’s a great way for me to keep track of you and know who visits my site!

There are a few reasons why I might not have your website link on my page. One, because I don’t know and two because it’s not a regular site I visit. I won’t link to everything I see but to those sites which interest me. However, if you want please feel free to link to my website!

If you see some errors on any of the pages or know a better way of coding something, please let me know asap so I can correct it. I’m sure through everything I’ve done there’s gotta be a few errors.

Let me know what you think and I promise I’ll try to get some LA pics up ASAP!! See ya soon.

so close…

I have spent almost every hour this weekend editing my website. These changes won’t be very noticeable to you but I’m basically overhauling everything on my end in hopes that there’s a lot more usability. This transition will *hopefully* take place within the next few days or week so if there’s some downtime, you’ll understand why.

Staying up until 2am has given me a headache, or was it coding all day long? Probably a mixture of both!

I really don’t have anything new or exciting to post yet because I’ve been impatiently trying to get my new system up. I didn’t do a darn thing this weekend because I shut myself in to fix my website. I need some sun!!!!

Today it’s officially been a week since I arrived here in LA. One whole week. I have training/orientation for my job on Wednesday and I need to plan out how I’m going to get over to the studios. I’ve been worrying about this website so much that I just haven’t made time to do anything else. It’ll all fall into place soon enough!

I’ll be back as soon as I can. Once I’m up and running, I hope to be more attentive to the site and post more. I’ve just been aggitated that I couldn’t make time to redesign the site, moreover I didn’t know what I wanted to do. However, I have found a happy medium that won’t affect anyone but me!

Go back to work now because you know you shouldn’t be reading this right now. If you’re done for the day, find something else to do.

LA!

Yup, I’m here! I made it here on Monday evening around 6pm PST. I could have been here earlier but…

I was eatin’ the road up on Monday. Arizona, most of I-10 through the state, is 75MPH. So I was just coasting. Ya hit California and not only is it slower but there’s not too much of which to see. I guess, however, that you’re driving between two mountain/hill ranges so it’s not horrible I guess.

I made it the Palm Springs area around 3pm. Basically, you reach a very high point and you start coming down for about 20 minutes to the valley which makes up Palm Springs. Ahead in the distance, I saw a bunch of clouds and the closer I got to LA the darker they got. D’oh!

After driving through Palm Springs and past the famous windmills (of which you see every time you visit this website . . . look up at the top of the page), there was some sprinkling. Then it was sprinkling harder. Then the traffic slowed down. Then it was drizzling. Then the traffic was fizzling. And so on.

It rained a few time, scattered showers and clouds most of the drive in. The traffic was just about as scattered as the weather. That’s LA traffic for ya.

So it took me about 2 hours to get about 40 miles. Maybe a little more but I wasn’t really counting either.

I am now here at my new home! First things up were my TV and computer (how obvious can I be?). I’ve spent the past two days shopping for a few things and applying for my first job here, which is officially gonna be at a certain theme park which isn’t Disneyland. I’ll be on the stage crew unless that changes in the near future.

In the next week or so, I’m gonna accompany my roomie to his place of work at the tv studio as well as make a few visits to some studios in the Hollywood area. This will hopefully return some positive results in the near future because I don’t wanna be a stage crew for all that long if possible. However, I’m not gonna give up a sure thing unless I find another sure thing, of course referring to a job.

There’s so much that I could include but don’t know what to put right now. I think I’ll leave it at this for now. I might post some photos in the near future if I can make time. Many, many more stories to come in the future and hopefully my new layout though it’s gonna take a while since I can’t dedicate too much time to it right now.

Later!
